I'm working on a rewrite - or at least I would be if I wasn't blogging instead.
It's interesting, the editor who requested the rewrite has submitted some really good and detailed feedback on what they do and don't like. I can understand all the points he's raised. The difficulty is translating this into the story.
He wants stronger characterisations - the trick is to tell as much as possible about the character and their motivation in as few as possible words - because I've also been told to cut back on the back story.
I've made a couple of passes through the ms now and I think it's better. I'm probably going to have to shelf for a week or two and then come back again.
